The best Sendit alternatives give you the same fun (a link on your story, anonymous messages from friends) without paid hints about who sent them or a pile of messages you're not sure are real. Below we compare MirrorBox, NGL and Tellonym on who can use them, safety, ads and price.

Disclosure: we make MirrorBox. Competitor details come from their US App Store listings and from government documents we link to, and are accurate as of October 2026. Apps change often, so double-check the listing before you choose.

Why people look for a Sendit alternative#

Sendit is hugely popular, with around 1.5 million App Store ratings, but a few things push people elsewhere:

  • Paid hints. Its Diamond membership advertises "hints about who sent all of your messages", and the listing also sells hint and "reveal" purchases.
  • Ads. The App Store listing says the app contains advertising.
  • A federal lawsuit. In September 2025, the Justice Department, on behalf of the FTC, sued Sendit's operator, Iconic Hearts, and its CEO. The complaint alleges the app collected personal data from children under 13 without parental consent, sent users messages from fake "people," and sold a Diamond membership as revealing senders when it didn't. These are allegations, and the FTC lists the case as pending. (FTC case page, DOJ press release)

1. MirrorBox: the closest swap for teens#

MirrorBox works the way Sendit users expect: one link on your story, anonymous messages in your inbox, answers posted back to your story. The differences are in how it's built:

  • 13+, like Sendit, with filters on from day one.
  • Never reveals senders. There are no hint packs, reveals or paid unmasking. Senders can reveal themselves in a chat if they want to.
  • No mystery messages. Questions MirrorBox sends to get you started are always labelled as coming from MirrorBox.
  • No ads.
  • Six message types, a wall to decorate, a Friends' portrait and a monthly recap.
  • Works in any browser, so you can switch today without installing anything.
Everything lands privately first. You choose what to pin.

Downsides: it's web-only until the iPhone and Android apps launch, and it's new, so it doesn't have Sendit's huge network or its games library yet.

2. NGL: the original, now adults only#

NGL made anonymous story links popular. It's simple and well known, but:

  • In July 2024 it settled charges from the FTC and the Los Angeles District Attorney for $5 million, and it is banned from serving anyone under 18. The FTC alleged fake messages, false claims that Pro would reveal senders, and unclear weekly charges. (FTC press release)
  • NGL Pro still advertises hints about who sent your messages.

3. Tellonym: Q&A with a social feed#

Tellonym adds following, a feed, discovery and chats to anonymous questions. Its listing mentions word filters, blocking, reporting and a moderation team. It's rated 18+ on the App Store, contains ads, and sells weekly, monthly and yearly subscriptions.

Good for adults who want anonymous Q&A plus a social network.

How to switch from Sendit#

  1. Claim your MirrorBox link. It takes under a minute.
  2. Post it to your story: here's how on Snapchat and on Instagram.
  3. Turn on safety settings: who can message you, muted words, and filters (on by default).
  4. Delete the Sendit app, and cancel any Diamond subscription in your App Store or Google Play settings. Deleting the app doesn't stop the payments.
