Picking an analytics tool for your game feels like a character select screen. Every option has different stats, the descriptions all sound great, and you only find out what you picked after twenty hours of play.

This guide compares three popular choices for indie developers: **GameAnalytics**, **PostHog** and **AnyAnalytics**. Full disclosure: we make [AnyAnalytics](https://vexil.io/apps/anyanalytics), so we're not neutral. We've tried to be fair anyway, including saying when one of the others is the better pick. Prices and features are from each company's own pages as of **October 2026**, so check their sites before you decide, because these things change.

## Which tool fits your game?

- **GameAnalytics** is built for games and has a free plan. Pick it if your budget is zero and you're making a mobile game.
- **PostHog** is a big product toolkit with a generous free tier. Pick it if you're also building a web app or SaaS and want session replay, feature flags and experiments in one place.
- **AnyAnalytics** includes a built-in Game report, Unity and Godot setup, and MCP on Free. Pick it if you want level completion and fail rates without configuring charts, with games, apps and websites in the same account.

## GameAnalytics: the game specialist with a free plan

GameAnalytics has focused on games for a long time, and it shows. Its SDK list is the longest of the three for game engines: Unity, Unreal, Godot, Roblox, GameMaker, Defold, Cocos2D, Construct, Flutter and more, plus iOS, Android and tvOS.

**Why you'd pick it**

- **The free plan.** Its pricing page lists a $0 plan with no cap on monthly active users. For a solo dev with no budget, that's hard to beat.
- **Engine coverage.** If you're on Roblox, Defold or Construct, it supports engines the other two don't.
- **Game-native concepts** like progression, resources and business events are part of its event model.

**What to weigh**

- Its paid tiers jump quickly: AnalyticsIQ Pro is $49 a month, and its pipeline and market-intelligence products start at $499 a month.
- It's built for games. If you also want to track the website that sells your game, you'll probably need a second tool for that.
- Its MCP server, which lets AI assistants answer questions about your metrics, comes with PipelineIQ Pro.

## PostHog: the everything-toolkit

PostHog is a broad product platform: product analytics, web analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, surveys and more. It offers US and EU cloud hosting. Self-hosting is available, but [PostHog describes those deployments as unsupported](https://posthog.com/docs/self-host).

**Why you'd pick it**

- **A big free tier.** 1 million product analytics events a month free, then you pay per event, with the per-event price falling as volume grows.
- **More than analytics.** If you want feature flags and A/B tests next to your charts, it's all in one place.
- **A capable MCP server.** AI coding agents can query your data and create saved insights and dashboards.
- **Great for web apps.** If your "game" is really a web app, or you also run a SaaS, PostHog fits naturally.

**What to weigh**

- It's built for software product teams, not games. There's no ready-made level or crash report, so you'd build those from funnels and insights yourself.
- Its library list includes Unity but not Godot.
- Per-event billing rewards chatty tracking less kindly. A busy game can send a lot of events per player.
- With that many products comes a lot of interface. It's powerful, but expect to spend some time finding your way around.

## AnyAnalytics: level reports without chart setup

We build AnyAnalytics for small teams that want to answer practical questions: which level needs attention, what changed after an update, and where purchases happen. Its strongest fit here is a **Game report that fills in from level and error events**, a small engine setup, and MCP access on every plan.

### From your first event to a useful report

![The AnyAnalytics Overview for a sample game: one sidebar with Overview, Dashboards, Realtime, Game, Insights, Live events, Persons and Sessions, above headline numbers for users, revenue, conversion rate, revenue per user, bounce rate and session time, a 7-day chart, and breakdowns by screen and operating system.](https://vexil.io/blog/gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics/dashboard.jpg "The Overview and report navigation. Sample data from our demo game.")

- **Setup holds your hand.** Pick what you're tracking (game, app, website or backend) and how. The setup page shows a ready-to-paste snippet with your key filled in, then waits and tells you the moment your first event arrives.
- **Reports that build themselves.** The Overview and the Game report fill in from the events you send, so there are no charts to configure. Send `level_start`, `level_complete`, `level_fail` and `$exception` and you get completion and fail rates per level, the hardest level, session length per platform and version, and crash-free sessions.

![The AnyAnalytics Game report for a sample game: 1,000 players, 11,153 sessions, a 6m 29s median session, 62.9% level completion with Level 56 flagged as hardest, and 96.8% crash-free sessions.](https://vexil.io/blog/gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics/game-report.jpg "The Game report, built from level and error events alone.")

[Explore the Game demo](https://anyanalytics.org/demo?view=game&utm_source=vexil.io&utm_medium=llms&utm_campaign=gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics&utm_content=report_demo) to try the report with sample data.

- **Follow up in Insights.** Trends, Funnels, Retention and Paths let you investigate beyond the built-in report and save the result to a dashboard.

![An AnyAnalytics funnel from opening the game to a first purchase: 1,000 players opened the game, 600 started a level, 599 beat a level and 359 bought something, for 35.9% overall conversion.](https://vexil.io/blog/gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics/funnel.jpg "A four-step funnel from first launch to first purchase, with the median time between steps.")

- **Verify your integration.** Live events shows accepted, duplicate and rejected events, with reasons for rejection. The engine SDKs batch events, so allow about 10 seconds for the first batch. Check names and property types too: an accepted custom event is not necessarily a built-in Game report event.

### Let your AI agent do the clicking (MCP)

AnyAnalytics speaks the **Model Context Protocol**, so AI agents like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and VS Code can work in your analytics for you. Connect once:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http anyanalytics https://api.anyanalytics.org/mcp
```

Sign in, pick the organization and choose what the agent may do: **Read only**, **Can build** or **Full control**. Then just ask:

- *"Build a funnel from first session to first purchase for Space Hopper and add it to the Launch dashboard."*
- *"Which level has the worst fail rate this week? Break its failures down by reason and game version."*
- *"Make a goal for `purchase_completed` and show me revenue by country."*

It's built to be safe to hand over:

- **Agents can't touch your data.** No tool can send, change or delete tracked events. Agents read reports and build funnels, insights, dashboards and goals.
- **Typos get caught.** Funnels and insights are checked against the events your project actually received, and an unknown name comes back with a suggestion ("did you mean `level_complete`?").
- **You can see what the agent did.** Everything an agent creates gets an agent badge in the dashboard, and each connection keeps a log of its tool calls.
- **It's on every plan**, including Free. It's not a paid add-on.

### One platform for everything you ship

Your game, your companion app and the website that sells them can all report into **the same AnyAnalytics account**: one script tag for the site, the [Unity](https://anyanalytics.org/docs/unity?utm_source=vexil.io&utm_medium=llms&utm_campaign=gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics), [Godot](https://anyanalytics.org/docs/godot?utm_source=vexil.io&utm_medium=llms&utm_campaign=gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics), [Swift](https://anyanalytics.org/docs/ios?utm_source=vexil.io&utm_medium=llms&utm_campaign=gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics) or [Kotlin](https://anyanalytics.org/docs/android?utm_source=vexil.io&utm_medium=llms&utm_campaign=gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics) SDK for the rest, and the [HTTP API](https://anyanalytics.org/docs/http-api?utm_source=vexil.io&utm_medium=llms&utm_campaign=gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics) for anything else.

Projects share the same event model and your plan's allowance. Add another game or its website when your plan has room, and use the reports you already know.

### Pricing and privacy

- **Free:** 2,000 monthly active players (or 100,000 website events), one project, one teammate and three months of history. Includes the reports, Live events and MCP.
- **Pro from $9/month:** up to 5,000 monthly active players, two games or apps, two teammates, three years of history and Stripe revenue.
- **Max from $19/month:** up to 5,000 monthly active players, 30 games or apps, 30 teammates and five years of history, plus alerts, weekly email reports, public dashboard links and read API keys.
- **Every new account gets 14 days of Max, with no card.** It then moves to Free unless you choose a paid plan.
- **Games and apps count players; websites count events.** Player billing has a fair-use allowance of about 1,000 events per player per month, so it is not unlimited event volume. Paid tiers scale with traffic. See [current plans and limits](https://anyanalytics.org/docs/plans?utm_source=vexil.io&utm_medium=llms&utm_campaign=gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics).
- **EU hosting:** IP addresses are used to derive country and are not stored with events. Data is not sold or used for advertising.

**What to weigh**

- **The free plan is small.** Free covers 2,000 monthly players, 1 game or app and 3 months of history, and leaves out Stripe revenue, alerts, public dashboards and read API keys. If you need more room at zero cost, GameAnalytics (no MAU cap) or PostHog's free tier will go further. And if you stay over the allowance for 7 days, Free locks your reports until you pick a plan or the month rolls over. Events are still collected meanwhile.
- **Fewer engine SDKs** than GameAnalytics. Native SDKs cover Unity, Godot, iOS and Android, web engines like Three.js, Babylon.js and PlayCanvas use the npm package, and Unreal, GameMaker and others work through the [HTTP API](https://anyanalytics.org/docs/http-api?utm_source=vexil.io&utm_medium=llms&utm_campaign=gameanalytics-vs-posthog-vs-anyanalytics) (one POST request) rather than a native plugin.
- **It's analytics only.** No session replay, feature flags or A/B testing. If you want those, PostHog does far more.

## Which one should you pick?

| If you… | Pick |
| --- | --- |
| …have no budget and one small game | **AnyAnalytics** (Free) or **GameAnalytics** |
| …have no budget and a game with lots of players | **GameAnalytics** (no MAU cap on its free plan) |
| …build on Roblox, Defold or Construct | **GameAnalytics** |
| …need feature flags, A/B tests or session replay too | **PostHog** |
| …are mostly a web app or SaaS | **PostHog** |
| …want analytics you can learn in an afternoon | **AnyAnalytics** |
| …want your AI agent to build funnels and dashboards for you, on any plan | **AnyAnalytics** |
| …want a level and crash report without building it | **AnyAnalytics** or **GameAnalytics** |
| …want your games, apps *and* websites in one tool you learn once | **AnyAnalytics** |
| …prefer player-based billing within a fair-use allowance | **AnyAnalytics** |
| …care about EU hosting and not storing IP addresses | **AnyAnalytics** (PostHog also offers EU hosting) |

Whatever you pick, the most important decision is *what* you track, not *where*. Our cheat sheet of [8 events every mobile game should track](https://vexil.io/blog/game-events-to-track) works with all three. ## FAQ

### Is GameAnalytics really free?

Its pricing page lists a Free plan at $0 with no MAU cap, and paid tiers from $49 a month for extra features. Check [their pricing](https://www.gameanalytics.com/pricing) for what each plan includes.

### Can I use PostHog for a Unity game?

PostHog lists a Unity library. It doesn't include a game-specific report, so level and crash analysis means building your own insights.

### Does AnyAnalytics have a free plan?

Yes. Free is $0 forever, with no card: 2,000 monthly players (or 100,000 website events), 1 game or app, 1 teammate and 3 months of history, with the same reports, live events and MCP as the paid plans. New accounts also get a 14-day trial of Max with no card. Paid plans start at $9 a month.

### Can AI agents manage my AnyAnalytics dashboards?

Yes. Connect Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code or any other MCP client and choose its access level. With **Can build** it can create funnels, insights, dashboards and goals; with **Full control** it can also delete them. Agents can never send, change or delete your tracked events.

### Can I track my game and my website in the same account?

Yes. Each one is a project in the same organization, with the same dashboard and reports, and they all share your plan's allowance.

### Can I switch tools later?

Yes, and good event names make it painless. If you use generic names with details in properties (`level_complete` with `{ level: 3 }`), you can send the same events to a different tool with very few code changes.
